Before heading to Egypt and art school in Alexandria in the early 90s, Tarik started out with a spray can in his hand as a grafitti artist in Stockholm. While at school, he founded a Atlas magazine and on his return to Sweden he kept his publishing role with the magazine before hosting a culture show on National TV.
In 2005, after a number of successful TV shows, Tarik, armed with his sharp mind and a camera, set out to tell a story about the cruelty of Guantanamo in the documentary Gitmo. The film made a big impact in festivals around the world and word about this fierce young filmmaker spread around the globe.
But Tarik didn’t stand still, he continued on, fearlessly aiming his gaze and lens at anything that interested him. He directed music videos for Lykke Li among others, made more TV, documentaries and an animated feature film. In 2017, Tarik’s feature film “The Nile Hilton Incident”, won the Sundance Film Festival World Cinema Grand Jury Prize, and it has since collected several awards around the world.
Recently Tarik has directed an episode of HBO’s acclaimed series, Westworld – Season 2, as well as directing commercials and prepping his next feature film project.
